Roles in a dysfunctional family

5 Roles You Might Find In A Dysfunctional Family

September 3, 2024

In every dysfunctional family, you'll find a few familiar characters. Here are five of them.

See if you recognize yourself or your family members in any of these roles:

The Hero is the responsible one, overachieving to bring positive attention to the family.

The Scapegoat is blamed for the family's problems and often acts out to divert attention from deeper issues.

The Lost Child tends to withdraw from family interactions, becoming invisible to avoid conflict.

The Mascot uses humor and charm to lighten the mood and distract from the family's issues.

The Enabler protects and makes excuses for the dysfunctional behavior of others in the family.

I created a PDF explaining all of these roles in detail. You can find it here.

If you want to learn more about this topic, I have a lot of content coming out in the next few weeks for The Family Cyclebreakers Club. I hope to see you in a group!
